Brandy is popularly known as an after-dinner drink and its alcoholic content usually ranges between 35% and 60%. The first production of brandy could be traced back to the development of wine distillation in the ancient Rome and Greece, while modern production started in the 12th century.

One of the processes involved in brandy production is fermentation; this is the stage where the wine, grapes, or fruit juices are fermented for 4-5 days before they are distilled using either column-still or pot-stills, and finally put into casks for aging.

The aging process of brandy determines its color. If it isn’t aged, it remains colorless and crystal clear. This simply implies that the longer the age, the stronger the color of the brandy. Caramel is sometimes used in the production of brandy so as to adjust the color and flavor.


The label on every type of brandy usually tells the quality and age of the product. The labels are;

Dry Gin (London) has all natural ingredients, and most importantly can’t have any flavorings or colorings added except for a small amount of sugar after the distillation process. London Dry is a real pride for the botanicals. London dry gin, however does not have to be made in London. The term is essentially a gin category, set of rules; and it’s a form of processing the ethyl alcohol

Distilled gin is made the same way as the London dry gin; the only difference is that flavoring is added after the distillation process.

Compound gin can be found anywhere; there are no real laws governing how compound gin should be made or what processes should take place after distillation.  Majority of compound gins has juniper flavor added after distillation, which makes it ultimately glorified flavored vodka.
